Local, Private, and Shared Projects
Every project has a visibility. Visibility controls whether the project syncs to Lunaris and who can open it.
| Visibility | Cloud sync | Who can access it |
|---|---|---|
| Local | No | People with access to this browser profile on this device |
| Private | Yes | Project owner and workspace members granted access |
| Shared | Yes | Everyone in the workspace |
Local projects
Choose Local when the work must remain on one device or you do not need cloud sync. Project content and files do not move to another device, even when you sign in with the same account there.
Guest accounts create local projects. Signed-in accounts can also choose Local.
Important limits:
- local projects cannot be shared;
- they are not included in cloud workspace backups;
- clearing local browser data can remove them; and
- their visibility cannot be changed to Private or Shared later.
Make your own device backup before clearing local data or replacing the device.
Private projects
Choose Private when you want cloud sync but not workspace-wide access. The project owner can grant individual workspace members Viewer or Editor access from project settings.
Private is useful for drafts, manager notes, restricted client work, or any project that should be visible only to selected people.
Only people who already belong to the workspace can be granted access. Invite someone to the workspace first, then add them to the private project.
Shared projects
Choose Shared when every member of the workspace should have access. Each person’s workspace role determines what they can do.
Shared is a good default for team knowledge, plans, meeting notes, and other work that should be easy for the whole workspace to find.
Change a cloud project’s visibility
Project owners and members with the required permission can change a cloud project between Private and Shared:
- Open the project.
- Select Settings in the top bar.
- Find Visibility.
- Choose Private or Shared.
Changing Shared to Private removes workspace-wide access. Add selected members under the private project’s sharing controls when they should retain access.
If the visibility selector is locked to Local while creating a project, cloud sync is not available for the current account. Sign up or switch to an account with cloud access.
