Roles and Permissions

Roles keep collaboration predictable. Give each person only the access they need.

Workspace roles

RoleWhat they can do
OwnerManage workspace details, members, invitations, projects, content, billing, backups, and the Audit log.
EditorCreate and manage projects and content. They can view workspace members but cannot manage workspace administration.
ViewerOpen workspace projects and content without changing them.

Only owners can change member roles or remove members. Keep at least one trusted owner responsible for billing, access, and recovery tasks.

Private project roles

Private projects can grant individual workspace members one of two roles:

  • Editor can change that project’s content.
  • Viewer can open it without making changes.

The project owner can change or remove these grants and can transfer project ownership to another eligible workspace member. Transferring ownership changes who controls the project’s private sharing settings, so confirm the recipient before continuing.

Workspace roles control Shared projects. A Private project’s role controls that member’s access to the Private project, so a workspace Viewer can be granted Editor access to selected Private work without becoming a workspace Editor.
